Peach Orchard

Peach Orchard

Owned by Mr. and Mrs. Sherfy, Union and Confederate forces clashed in their peach orchard at 6:30 p.m. Their home and orchard were ruined by the battle that took place that day.  This area was of importance because  it was an important high ground overlooking Emmitsburg Road and Seminary Ridge. To make the Peach Orchard a strong position, four Union divisions were initially posted here.
